150m² separate guest house: 20m² double bedroom + 40m² suite + 60m² studio
Rent a room or the entire guest house for up to 10 people plus kids
Stay among yourselves or enjoy the company of 2 sociable hosts, 2 teens and a bunch of human dogs in the separate guest house of our home Finca Molino in the countryside of Almayate, 2.5 km from the only unspoiled beach on the Costa del Sol, half an hour’s drive from Málaga.
The accommodation
The finca is divided into two large, independent houses built into the hillside, with a pool, pool terrace with outdoor kitchen and covered terrace in between, and a wash house next to it. Surrounded by a garden and pure nature.
The upper house is our private realm (the family includes two teenagers, far too many dogs and a handful of chickens – all from the street, except for the children).
The guest house below the pool terrace, with a total living space of around 150m², is completely private and has its own entrance. With its three bedrooms of different sizes, each with an en-suite bathroom, two kitchens and a private terrace leading into part of the garden, there is enough space for up to ten people plus children. All windows are south-facing and offer a view of the sea.
You’ll find a cool mix of industrial style and cozy antiques, lots of handmade decorative items (some we can make together if you’re up for a workshop, others you can buy as souvenirs), beautifully coordinated textiles, and each unit has its own color code for towels to avoid arguments by the pool.
To the divided outer surfaces
The fully equipped covered outdoor kitchen with barbecue and adjoining dining area (the table seats up to 14 people and can be converted into a pool table by raising the top) is located on the pool terrace above the guest house with sun loungers and deckchairs. There is a small pétanque court around the corner.
Wifi works in all rooms and even in most of the garden, but most strongly on the pool terrace, and we have had many happy digital nomads using our outdoor areas for relaxed work with sea views.
The 5000 m² property is fully fenced and mostly a wild park full of fruit trees (lemons, oranges, grapefruits, figs, lomquats, pomegranates, apples, pears, nectarines, lychees, grapes, passion fruit, quinces, guavas, mangoes, avocados…). – there is always something to pick).
In the lower part of the garden, we have already set up a caravan as another independent rental unit with its own outdoor solar shower and outdoor kitchen. We are planning to add more units in the near future.
Access for guests
It is your home in the south, of course you can let off steam freely on the finca, splash around in the pool
splash around in the pool, chill out on the pool terrace, fire up the barbecue, visit the chickens, cuddle the dogs
cuddle the dogs or have a drink with us – just as you like.
During your stay
We are always here for you and happy to help with anything – but we won’t impose unless we all fancy a wine or perhaps a barbecue together. We have made our passion for hosting our main job, and maintaining the finca and the other house we rent out is our day job. So you’ll see us jumping around the finca, be it doing day-to-day maintenance, messing around with our produce, DIY projects – or simply enjoying a sundowner, alone or with friends. Just be realize that you’re not renting a private vacation villa, it’s our home and we’ll be around.
Further important notes
We strongly recommend that you hire a car. Although we are only 1.5 km from the town by direct road, it can be quite an adventurous cross-country hike (depending on how high the weeds are growing at the time), and the steep climb from the town to the finca can be quite unpleasant with shopping and luggage.
By car it is 3.5 km from the village on paved roads, only the last part of the drive to the finca is a rather bumpy dirt road, but don’t worry – whether the smallest rental cars or large motorhomes, so far every vehicle has made it up and down without damage, you just have to take it slowly.
just take it slowly.
You can park the car safely in front of the gate within the white lines that mark our parking spaces, the road is a dead end, only the neighbors and we use it.
From the gate to the guest house it is about 100 steps up the driveway. Please keep this in mind in case you or any of your fellow travelers have health problems or are unsteady on your feet, especially as our
on your feet, especially as our dogs might find it fun to accompany you while they chase each other.
On arrival we can pick you up with our quad plus trailer to help you with luggage and shopping, but you can’t drive in – we don’t want our dogs to run away or get run over.
Dogs & Pets
Did I mention that we have dogs? You really can’t argue them away, so it helps to like them. They have hardly any manners and are in fact criminals who steal food and anything that smells good to them, they jump on you to say hello, beg for food if you ever give them anything, always grab the best spots on the sun loungers, “chat” day and night with the neighbors’ dogs and some of them love to splash around in the pool. But they are tame and very close to us and will most likely leave you alone unless you invite them for a cuddle. Please take a moment to introduce yourself to them, don’t leave anything lying around and keep the door to the guest house closed, then your beds and supplies should be safe.
Our hens live in their paradise next to our private house at the top of the property, so the rooster’s wake-up call is quite far away – you get eggs in exchange for leftovers and kitchen scraps, if the hens feel like laying.
The Pool
Children are of course welcome, but please note that our house is not childproof. The pool is not fenced and has a deep end, there are lots of steps around the pool terrace, the whole property has unsecured steep slopes and plants that can be harmful if swallowed. But hey, our kids have grown up here since they were one and three, and they are still alive and kicking.
The pool is about 3.50m x 7.00m with brick steps leading down to the (unsecured!) non-swimmer’s area – ideal for kids to splash around in while parents relax with a drink beside them. A few steps down, the shallow end is 1.20 m, the deep end 1.70 m. It is open all year round and around the clock.
Despite the current alarming water situation in Spain, you will not experience any inconvenience in this respect. We have our own well and are therefore not dependent on the suppliers who regulate consumption in other places. Of course, we ask you to use our water responsibly.
Finally, to our presence
We are always here for you and happy to help with anything – but we won’t impose unless we all fancy a wine or perhaps a barbecue together. We have made our passion for hosting our main job, and maintaining the finca and the other house we rent out is our day job. So you’ll see us jumping around the finca, be it doing day-to-day maintenance, messing around with our produce, DIY projects – or simply enjoying a sundowner, alone or with friends. Just be aware that you’re not renting a private vacation villa, it’s our home and we’ll be around.
Should one of the other rental units be rented out during your stay, it is of course possible that people will turn a night into day on the pool terrace, which is basically the roof of the guest house, or in the garden below, and we are sorry to admit that as very sociable hosts we have a strong tendency to encourage this, sometimes with the aid of music and drinks.

Almayate
Almayate is a little town located on the coast of the municipality of Vélez-Málaga, the capital of the Axarquía comarca, a region that lies on the Eastern Costa del Sol, in the province of Málaga in the Spanish autonomous community of Andalusia.
Rural idyll, breath-taking views over the sea, virgin soils and the mountains – and still our finca is at only a stone’s throw away from the village. Almayate has everything you need: shops, bars, restaurants, bus stops, a playground, a stationary shop, a tobacco shop, a supermarket, a post office, a butcher, you name it. And it’s located directly next to the only unspoilt coastal strip of Costa del Sol.
The beach of Almayate is simply beautiful, natural, mostly virgin and only two kilometres away as the crow flies. Still, there are plenty of chiringuitos (beach bars) to choose between, so you can always combine your beach time with a cold drink, some tapas, sardine skewers or a full meal.
600 m further up the coast towards Torre del Mar you’ll find the popular nudist beach Almanat. You’ll find chiringuitos next to it that like to see people wearing clothes… or not.
The surroundings
The bigger town Torre del Mar is four kilometres away. Here, you’ll find loads of shops, boutiques, bars, restaurants of all kinds, ice cream parlours, cafés, discotheques, night clubs and pubs. The beach promenade stretches over various kilometres and is really nice – to go for a walk, stroll around, go rollerblading, bicycling, playing tennis, basketball or ping pong or have the obligatory stop for tapas and a nice glass of wine.
In the west Málaga, Torremolinos, Fuengirola, Marbella, Ronda, Estepona, Gibraltar or Tarifa, in the east Vélez-Málaga, Nerja, Frigiliana and other white villages or Granada – what about a little day trip? And even Córdoba or Sevilla can be reached in around two hours by car…
The seasons
Depending on whether you like it loud and proud or prefer the calm and relaxed way of life Almayate will hit every taste – according to the season. The beach is only busy during the high season – the Spanish summer holidays from end of June to mid-September. Still, it has nothing to do with those overfilled vacation strips where you see more bodies than sand.
From mid-September to mid-June the beach of Almayate is virtually deserted except for the odd fisher, especially during the week. Still, some chiringuitos (beach bars) are open so you can enjoy your freshly grilled fish right on the beach in total peace. The village is accordingly un-touristic during these times irrespective of some clever souls taking a break over regional bank holidays.
The most important village event takes place on the first Sunday in May – the Romería, definitely worth seeing. The entire population of Almayate puts on their traditional flamenco dresses and suits, especially bread bulls are beautifully decorated and pull colourful wooden wagons, then the milelong train accompanied by countless horses moves from here over Torre del Mar to hit a secluded park for an enormous pick-nick. A must-see for Spain lovers. Easter is also a major issue in Spain – especially in Vélez-Málaga (approx. 9 km away) colourful and impressive parades take place over an entire week (“semana santa”).
During the summer months one fiesta leads to the next. All villages have their own feria (fun fair) with dance, stands and fun rides. Also the three-day music festival “Weekend Beach” and the “Air Show” have made quite a name for themselves over the past years and attract the masses from near and far.
Over the winter months and even around Christmas it is rather relaxed around here, even in Torre del Mar, the Spanish keep to themselves. So how about some X-Mas shopping in Málaga? The seasonal decorations and lights are definitely worth seeing. And as soon as the sun shines you’ll even be warm wearing only a T-shirt.
